The Real Reason Why Dolly Parton And Kenny Rogers Never Dated

We love ourselves some celeb couples – from
the ones that cause drama and take us on roller coaster rides to the smooth sailing ones that
oftentimes go under the radar. Then there are also the couples that could
have – but never – happened. Among them: the country music legends Dolly
Parton and Kenny Rogers. Rogers passed away at his home on March 20,
2020 at age 81. Many famous faces have paid tribute to “The
Gambler,” including his long-time duet partner, Dolly Parton. She tweeted alongside a video: “You never know how much you love somebody
until they’re gone. I’ve had so many wonderful years and wonderful
times with my friend, Kenny, but above all the music and the success, I loved him as
a wonderful man and a true friend.” “I loved Kenny with all my heart. My heart’s broken, and a big chunk of it has
gone with him today.” From “Islands in the Stream” to “Real Love,”
this talented pair certainly made beautiful music together. With that kind of chemistry, why did Dolly
Parton and Kenny Rogers never date? Some pals and colleagues get friend-zoned,
but Dolly Parton took it to another level when she sibling-zoned her duet partner, Kenny
Rogers. She told Today: “You know what, we were almost like brother
and sister. And it would almost be like incest. So we just never went there.” The running joke is that the two were never
even attracted to each other, although Rogers admitted on several occasions that they enjoyed
flirting. “Dolly and I have been accused of having an
affair for the last 30 years. And we never did. What we’ve done is we’ve flirted with each
other for 30 years.” Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers had a long history
of making music together as duet partners, and many of those tunes were love songs. Their first recording collaboration in 1983,
“Islands in the Stream,” became a No. 1 hit and was deemed the best country duet of all
time in a 2005 CMT poll. Their chemistry continued with “Love is Strange,”
“Real Love,” and “You Can’t Make Old Friends.” Parton told Today that the latter was her
favorite because “it’s so personal to both of us.” Parton even joined Rogers at his last concert
before he retired in 2015. That show, called “All in for the Gambler,”
was held in Nashville, was a star-studded affair. Parton conveyed mixed feelings about her friend
stepping away from the stage. She told Today: “I don’t think I feel as scared and as empty
as some of the fans do, because Kenny and I are friends, and I imagine that we can go
visit and maybe once in a while light into a little bit of a song or two.” Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton talked about
their long-standing friendship in a 2013 interview with People. At the time, the duo was asked about previous
interviews where Rogers had discussed their relationship status, or lack thereof. Rogers recalled: “I remember that interview and what I said
when they asked if we weren’t tempted to get together on a more intimate level. I said we may have been tempted but we didn’t
want to ruin a good friendship.” Parton agreed with Rogers, telling the magazine: “We never did go there. There was always so much other stuff going
for us. So much love and friendship, we were so compatible.” Although they kept things platonic between
them, both found romance elsewhere. Rogers, who was married five times, ultimately
settled down with his wife of 22 years, Wanda Miller. They had twin boys together, Justin and Jordan,
whom he adored. Meanwhile, Parton has been married for over
50 years to husband Carl Thomas Dean. From the sound of it, these two got to experience
the joy of true romantic love with their spouses, as well as the love that forms amidst a strong,
musical partnership. That may just be the sweetest love story of
all. “God bless you, Kenny. Fly high, straight to the arms of God.”

  1. Dolly Parton was/is married and even if she wasn't it doesn't mean just because they collaborated on a song together that they should become an item. It's called being professional. You can't develop a relationship with every one you work with.

  2. He was the same age as my pops. My pops passed away in 2018 and my parents played his music often in the 70’s & 80’s. Kenny was such a beautiful man. I too wish he didn’t have all that plastic surgery. He was aging gracefully and I’ll remember him as a part of my childhood πŸ™πŸΌπŸŒΉπŸ¦‹πŸƒπŸ•Š

  3. Its difficult for people to understand that grown people could actually be friends. Dolly has that warm, loving, embodiment. It wouldn't be surprising if Kenny felt deeply about her. In the end, they knew how to create their connection and sell it. Which is smarter for both of them because they grew their business to last and for generations.

  4. Well duh Dolly's been married since she's 18 do you really think she's going to tell you that she screwed somebody during our marriage on an interview?

  5. How disrespectful to Dolly and Kenny. Dolly has been married since 1966 and Kenny was married a good portion of that time. They were close friends and wonderful working together.
Men and women can just be friends and leave it at that.

  6. Kenny Rogers was so handsome back in the day R.I.P. and Dolly Parton was gorgeous leave the facelift, botox, and plastic surgery alone people

  7. Such a beautiful story so needed now! πŸ˜πŸ™πŸ½

  9. Why didn't Dolly and Kenny get together? Uhhhh probably because Dolly has been married to the same man since she was probably 2!! (exaggerated obviously)

  10. This is ridiculous! Dolly has been married to the same man for decades. Typical Hollywood mentality. So disrespectful to Dolly.

  11. Yes they did and I love them both I cried so hard when I found out he passed away I think the reason why I did that is because I listen to him all the time after my boyfriend Bear died

  12. πŸ˜“πŸ˜’πŸ˜πŸ˜’πŸ’” yes the gambling was a great song I really like that always thought Kenny Rogers was very handsome praying for his family and friendsπŸ˜‡πŸ™πŸ™

  13. drove by his gigantic ranch in Georgia
a friend of mine worked his stables that were air conditioned and said that Rogers was a true real person!

  14. I love DP. 😘 But she's the one who once said that she fantasised about Brad Pitt. So I don't understand the self-righteous indignation people are displaying here..

  15. Why the British announcer, wouldn't this sound much more suitable with a Nashville accent? What they heck were you thinking?

  16. Why would we assume that because two people look good together and are friends, that there is anything romantic there? That's very superficial. Not to mention stupid. And not to mention that Dolly has been married to Carl since she was 15. Hillbillies, you know.

  17. Why would you flirt with someone that you were never attracted to?? I don't buy it. I think they wanted each other, but I think for various reasons it just couldn't happen.

  19. Big respected human beings of all time rest in peace eternally sir Kenny Rogers your legacy will never be forgotten, your all famous song will never fade and always will play for next generation to comes.

  22. Rest In Peace Kenny, a world legend has past but not forgotten and will live with your crest music in our ears for years to come! Amen πŸ™

  23. Too bad they botched that face lift he had several years ago. He never looked the same after that. It looked painful. He was so handsome in his young years.

  24. Dolly has strong values and is a very private person. During many interviews over the years she has been asked about her personal life, and her marriage. She has always skirted around the issue of affairs. I think Kenny was more than a singing partner at one time. But in the end she would not leave her husband.

  25. I would assume that they never β€œdated” since they were both married. If they were such great friends why did she have to read about his death over the internet. Great friends would have been in closer contact than that. Sorry.

  26. Stupid post. Dolly's happily married and I think her Christian principals would override any homome fueled feelings for anyone, not just Kenny Rogers.

  27. I truly wish that people could understand that 2 people of the opposite sex can truly love each other and it not be about sex, ever.

  29. "The Gambler" was more like an instructional country song about how to play in Vegas, Atlantic City, and in the lotteries of each U.S. state. This song should have been played in Las Vegas casinos.

  30. R.I.P Kenny and you'll be missed …. I grew up on him and Dolly music… This brakes my heart this week ….πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™
