Marijuana Legalization Has Record-High Support In New Poll | MSNBC

COP JEFF SESSIONS PROMISED ALSO
TO POLICE MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION EFFORTS WHILE POT USE, SALE AND
POSSESSION, REMAIN ILLEGAL FEDERALLY, EIGHT STATES THEY ARE
HIGHLIGHTED FOR YOU IN GREEN, OF COURSE, THERE ON THE MAP, EIGHT
STATES HAVE LEGALIZED RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA USE.
THE NATION’S CAPITAL DOES NOT ALLOW SALES, BUT RECREATIONAL
USE AT HOME IS LEGAL THERE IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
THERE’S A NEW POLL OUT, IT SHOWS JUST HOW MUCH ATTITUDES ARE
CHANGING AROUND POT. TO DIG DEEPER TURN TO OUR DATA
GURU SENIOR POLITICAL EDITOR MARK MURRAY ON THIS 4/20 HOLIDAY
FOR SOME, I SHOULD POINT OUT. WHAT DOES THIS NEW POLLING SAY
FIRST OF ALL, MARK? >>CRAIG, IT ACTUALLY SHOWS
THINGS THAT ARE PRETTY CONSISTENT WITH OTHER POLLS
WE’VE SEEN. IN THIS POLL 61% OF AMERICANS
SAY THEY SUPPORT LEGALIZATION OF MARIJUANA.
IN THIS POLL IT’S UP FROM 5 POINTS BACK IN APRIL.
AGAIN, THIS IS PRETTY CONSISTENT WITH WHAT OTHER SURVEYS HAVE
SHOWN THAT A MAJORITY OR A LITTLE MORE THAN THAT, BACK
LEGAL MARIJUANA USE. WHAT I THINK IS STRIKING IS JUST
LOOK AT THE CHANGE FROM 1979 WHERE YOU JUST HAD 27% OF THE
PUBLIC THAT ACTUALLY SUPPORTED MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION, SO
CRAIG, JUST OVER A 40-YEAR SPAN, A VERY BIG SEA CHANGE.
AND THEN A COUPLE OTHER NUMBERS, YOU HAVE 88% OF AMERICANS,
ALMOST 9 IN 10, WHO BACK MAKING MEDICAL MARIJUANA LEGAL.
AND THEN YOU END UP HAVING 71% OF AMERICANS OPPOSING FEDERAL
GOVERNMENT CRACKDOWN OF LEGAL SALES OF MARIJUANA.
AND CERTAINLY THAT SEEMS TO BE SOME OF THE RHETORIC COMING FROM
THE TRUMP ADMINISTRATION AND CERTAINLY ATTORNEY GENERAL JEFF
SESSIONS. >>TO WHAT CAN WE ATTRIBUTE THE
SHIFT IN NUMBERS THERE, MARK, OR DO WE KNOW WHY ATTITUDES SEEM TO
BE CHANGING SOMEWHAT SWIFTLY? >>WELL, CRAIG, ONE HAS TO DO
WITH JUST YOUNGER GENERATION THAT, YOU KNOW, THAT MARIJUANA
LEGALIZATION IS SUPPORTED BY YOUNGER PEOPLE AND AS YOUNGER
PEOPLE ARE BECOMING A BIGGER PART OF THE COUNTRY.
THESE NUMBERS GO UP. THERE’S ALSO ONE OTHER REASON I
THINK IS FASCINATING, CRAIG, 53% OF AMERICANS IN THE SAME CBS
POLL SAY ALCOHOL IS MORE HARMFUL TO HEALTH.
JUST 7% CITE MARIJUANA. THERE’S A BIGGER STIGMATIZATION
ON ALCOHOL THAN MARIJUANA. >>MARK MURRAY OUR

  1. Don't care what you do to slow things down for you, just please do it downwind… or somewhere/somehow so your smoke doesn't float into my home.
    That's it.
Happy 4:20, feel free to spark one up, Sparky!

  2. Attitudes have changed. The only people that don't approve are cops who really like to bust people and auction off their stuff in forfeiture

  3. I live in Colorado, we have had legal weed for a couple of years now, and the big secret being kept is still not out. Comcast will deny it, but is secretly trying to fix it. If growing weed is legal in every basement, and your neighborhood has a lot of growers, then you will have a problem. Grow lights emit larger than usual amounts of energy, especially when kicked on. So when you have a massive number of lights, all on different timers, all kicking on, emitting massive energy pulses through the outlets, and wiring of a neighborhood, CONSTANTLY, it is going to interfere with your WIFI….ALL…DAY….LONG. Comcast recently "upgraded" most of Colorado's populated area's to faster speeds, free of charge to try and combat the situation, with SOME success, but only time will tell how this all plays out?

  4. the poll means nothing you could have all the support in the world and still get nowhere. between the DEA and big Pharma it's going to be very slow going for marijuana.

  5. Legalize it everywhere already. It's not like millions of people from all walks of life don't already smoke it, not just young people. Not to mention all the benefits for people with various conditions for which pot elevates symptoms. As well as all the things hemp can be used for.

  6. PA needs to have recreational legal, then the entire U.S., but as long as Sessions who said that "marijuana is just slightly better than heroin", it won't happen for a while. They should just have all the states decide for themselves

  7. You have to take experimental medications & die in your 40's, its the american way. Dont forget to buy a smartphone on your way out.

  8. The government is running out of money for its propaganda campaign and they know that they cannot win against the truth that is being discovered by marijuana users and Internet surfers.

  9. It doesn't matter what the people want. What matters is which lobbiest has the heaviest briefcase with him. Politicians in Washington only do what they are bribed to do.

  10. Just legalize it already! Everyone smokes so why not make some tax money off of it? it's a billion dollar industry and has been proven to be less dangerous than alcohol which is legal.

  11. Won't happen cause that new show on the weekends #LivePD that's basically their whole show busting people in their cars for weed possession, big ratings 6 hours a week, Corporate America the Entertainment industry won't allow it.

  12. Hmm. So voters are now medical professionals? No. They're ignorant, brainwashed people. Time to wake up. No credible medical association has approved of the "medical" marijuana scam.

  13. cannabis was one of 5 holly plants in hinduism(We knew its medical use and has been using it for nearly 5000 years in ayurveda) .Till 1965 cannabis was legal and widely used in INDIA and due to american government &Cigarette lobbies pressure (sadly that time indian government was weak)India made cannabis illegal, Now americans realise the real medical uses of cannabis and started legalizing it while we are in a scenario that legalization won't happening at least for next 50 years!!!!

  14. Younger people are the reason for wider acceptance? Interesting. Colorado reports that Marijuana use has basically remained steady with a drop in teen use and a rise in use by older adults.

  15. If they want more of us potheads off the couch, they'd stop drug testing for small amounts of THC in the body. Otherwise i'll just be chilling in my short shorts, buying hamburgers from some of these hardworking burger flippers.

  17. Recreational marijuana prohibition should stay. Also, countries or states that don't have recreational marijuana prohibition should receive it again.

  18. END THE DRUG WAR – famous quotes:

“…marijuana [in its natural form] is one of the safest, therapeutically active substances known to man.”
    –Francis Young (DEA’s own Judge)

“Congress should definitely consider decriminalizing possession of marijuana… We should concentrate on prosecuting the rapists and burglars who are a menace to society.”
-Dan Quayle (U.S. Representative & Vice President)

"Even if one takes every reefer madness allegation of the prohibitionists at face value, marijuana prohibition has done far more harm to far more people than marijuana ever could."
“The anti-marijuana campaign is a cancerous tissue of lies, undermining law enforcement, aggravating the drug problem, depriving the sick of needed help and suckering well intentioned conservatives and countless frightened parents.”
     – William F. Buckley Jr. (American conservative author, commentator, founder National Review magazine)

"Penalties against possession of a drug should not be more damaging to an individual than the use of the drug itself; and where they are, they should be changed. Nowhere is this more clear than in the laws against possession of marijuana in private for personal use…”
    – Jimmy Carter (U.S.President)

"The illegality of cannabis is outrageous, an impediment to full utilization of a drug which helps produce the serenity and insight, sensitivity and fellowship so desperately needed in this increasingly mad and dangerous world."
    – Dr. Carl Sagan (American Cosmologist, Astrobilologist, author & science communicator)

“You bet I did -— and I enjoyed it.” ….when asked if he had ever smoked marijuana.
    – Michael Bloomberg (New York City Mayor)

“If the words 'life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness' don't include the right to experiment with your own consciousness, then the Declaration of Independence isn't worth the hemp it was written on.”
    ― Terence McKenna

Studies have consistently failed to establish the existence of a link between the harshness of a country’s drug laws and its levels of drug use."
    -Kofi Annan (U.N. Secretary General)

  19. They give weed to kids. But won't give it to adults. Come on Legalize It North Carolina. The state locks people up for selling weed. Then they turn around and sell it. Drugs are made in a pharmacy. Herbs grow naturally it's Nature's way of saying hi.

  20. People have done their own research along with private studies and have found our Gov lied to us about it. That's what happened.

  21. Next the war on drugs should end instead of Rehabilitation for the addicts and safe use programs to wein them off. This isn't a criminal epidemic unless your talking about dealers but this a mental illness and none of it was caused by cannabis. Wasting our tax payer to punish Americans who simply want to explore their state of mind or relax as responsible adults we should the right use cannabis as we please and anyone we says diffienetly is unamerican and not for adults rights.

  22. I was at a party and some people were passing a joint. When it was offered to me i figured whatever happens I can handle it. I got more than i can handle, I got aids.

  23. Take a stance against recreational marijuana legalization because it continually help criminals by getting them access to a supply of marijuana. For example, a drug gang exploited recreational marijuana legalization according to (The Legalization of Marijuana in Colorado The Impact Volume 2: Page 102). This example proves recreational marijuana legalization continually helps organized criminals which increases criminal activity.

  24. I'm rooting for the legalization of recreational marijuana throughout the US. Let the useless stoners legally smoke themselves out of existence, and not engage in the political process since they tend to vote for democrats who do more harm than good for the country.

  25. Legalize it and then crush the cartels in Mexico and South America…problem solved, less illegals too cuz they won't be fleeing terrible conditions

  26. Until the weed lobby can offer bigger bribes than the pharmaceutical lobby theres not a chance we will seethe federal prohibition lifted . And with obamacare supsidies fueling pharmaceutical companies its no easy task
