Local federal employees relieved the Government is back open

within the last hour President Trump signs a deal with lawmakers to fund the federal government for three weeks while talks on border security continue but the president is warning another shutdown could happen if an agreement on border wolf funding does not happen he’s raising the prospect that he could declare a national emergency if we don’t get a fair deal from Congress the government will either shut down on February 15th again or I will use the powers afforded to me under the laws and the Constitution of the United States to address this emergency local federal employees feeling a sigh of relief now that the governor is back open at least for three weeks news for Jackson Porter Corley peel spoke of the one who works for the IRS and Corley is joining us from the South Bank now show us that woman’s reaction Corley can I spoke with Jerry Johnson earlier this week and she’s a single mom and a veteran and she had no idea when her next paycheck would be now the shutdown has temporarily ended she feels like a weight has been lifted off her shoulders for the next three weeks federal government employees will be paid to work after President Donald Trump announced the end of the shutdown on Friday Jerry Johnson is a single mom who works for the IRS she has been waiting for this moment for over a month I’m actually ecstatic because we’re looking forward to receiving a paycheck and hopefully in the meantime they can come to a resolution so we don’t have to go through this again Johnson says she won’t receive back pay for the hours she worked without paid during the shutdown what’s it going to be like when you finally get that check first things first someone handed my responsibilities and called everybody that I had to defer for the last couple of bills like I said luckily I was able to take care of my January bills but February I have a sigh of relief I don’t have to worry about you know where February is going to come from Johnson hopes lawmakers are able to pass a funding bill that will keep the government open beyond February 15th when this funding bill will run out until then she’s not getting her hopes I’m very apprehensive I’m very skeptical I’m just hoping that you know things will remain the same after the three weeks in but like said there’s no guarantees knowing she’s getting a paycheck Johnson says she’s looking forward to go into work on Monday officials say contractors will not receive back pay from the shutdown those workers include security guards janitors and a food service personnel reporting live from South Bank where Lee PL channel 4 the local station
