Fall River Mayor Faces Two Challengers in General Election

TONIGHT, THE INDICTED MAYOR OF FALL RIVER, JASIEL CORREIA IS FACING OFF AGAINST TWO CHALLENGERS IN A PULMONARY ELECTION EVEN AS HE FACES CORRUPTION CHARGES. THE CITY COUNCIL VOTED JUST LAST WEEK TO REMOVE HIM BUT HE SAYS HE WILL ONLY LEAVE OFFICE IF VOTERS VOTE HIM OUT. WE GO LIVE TO FALL RIVER TONIGHT WITH MORE ON TODAY’S ELECTION. Reporter: THE MAYOR HAS BEEN SHOWING UP TO WORK HERE AT CITY HALL FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF DAYS, DESPITE THE COUNCIL VOTE, AND TONIGHT HE’S ASKING VOTERS TO SUPPORT HIM ONCE AGAIN AND SEND HIM TO THE GENERAL ELECTION. EMBATTLED FALL RIVER MAYOR JASIEL CORREIA IS FACING TWO CHALLENGERS DURING TODAY’S PULMONARY ELECTION, SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEMBER PAUL HOGAN AND ERICA SCOTT PACHECO. THIS ELECTION IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT JUST BECAUSE THERE’S ONLY THREE OF THEM. Reporter: TWO WEEKS AGO, CORREIA WAS ARRESTED BY FEDERAL AGENTS, HE’S PLEADED NOT GUILTY TO CHARGES ALLEGING HE EXTORTED HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS FOR MARIJUANA COMPANY IS TRYING TO OPEN UP IN THE CITY. HE’S ALSO PLEADED NOT GUILTY TO SERVE AT FEDERAL CHARGES OF DEFRAUDING INVESTORS. I’M NOT GOING TO SAY WHO I VOTED FOR TODAY, BUT I THINK HE HAS SOME EXPLAINING TO DO TO THE PEOPLE OF THE CITY.
