  3. Maddow Argues Statements on Air Should Not Be Taken as Fact in Response to OAN Lawsuit
Avatar by Cassandra Fairbanks December 27, 2019 147 Comments

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow’s defense in court over her claim that One America News is “really, literally is paid Russian propaganda” is that statements she makes on her show should not be considered facts.

Maddow is currently being sued by the right-wing network for $10 million over the claim.

Culttture reports that Maddow’s lawyer Theodore Boutrous Jr. wrote in a defense motion that “…the liberal host was clearly offering up her ‘own unique expression’ of her views to capture what she saw as the ‘ridiculous’ nature of the undisputed facts. Her comment, therefore, is a quintessential statement ‘of rhetorical hyperbole, incapable of being proved true or false.’”

MSNBC, Comcast, and NBC Universal Media are also named in the lawsuit. OAN additionally accuses MSNBC’s parent company Comcast of “anti-competitive censorship” because they refuse to offer OAN to their subscribers.

The lawsuit stems from a July segment in which Maddow asserted, as fact, that “in this case, the most obsequiously pro-Trump right wing news outlet in America is really literally is paid Russian propaganda,” and added, “Their on-air politics reporter (Kristian Rouz) is paid by the Russian government to produce propaganda for that government.”

After it aired, OAN reporter Jack Posobiec blasted the liberal conspiracy theorist on Twitter.

  4. Yang is the only Democratic candidate I’ve ever considered voting for.

By the way, MSNBC, you’ve essentially been pulling another 2016. Only talking about Trump and the front-runner Dems.

You and other big news agencies are essentially going to hand Trump the presidency once again – if you continue down this path.

  5. As a former MSNBC fan, mostly regarding the deep coverage of trump's shenanigans, ill say that this is the first MSNBC video i watched since the #boycottmsnbc movement. #DoBetterMSNBC

  6. Interview was terrible. Yang was cut off at the end incredibly rudely. Still no apology. Any exposure is good I suppose but this was disappointing on many levels.

  7. Great answer by Yang. Quite rude of the show to cut Yang off as he was giving his parting words and wishing the program well. It is customary and a basic gesture of respect for a show to allow the guests to have the final word before the fade to break…

The full interview is quite good. Seems like the interviewer was trying to catch Yang off guard but of course it only made him look better as usual

  8. I gotta laugh though about how the interviewer sounds like he wants to put air quotes on democratic "party". It's obnoxious.

  9. Andrew Yang has my contributions and vote. Please contribute as you can so Andrews Dec. goal can be met.

  10. For new viewers of this message; PLEASE DONATE @, as of now we've raised $1,325,788 out of $3 million needed by Dec. 31, 2019 at 11:59 PM. Anything helps.

  11. So MSNBC saw that interviews with Yang on CNN and Fox News dominated in views after the debate and decided to ask him back on. I see what your doing MSNBC 😉

  12. At a time when it feels like the country couldn't be more divided, it's fascinating to watch these attempts to make a strong unifying message look like a bad thing. As usual, Andrew proves himself above the cheap framing and reminds us of the facts which too many in the audience are sick of being deprived of. That's my president.

  13. I don't support Andrew Yang. He tried to co-opt Medicare For All when he did not believe in the actual bill or eliminating private insurance. Now he comes outs with his own public option plan after campaigning on Medicare for All and including it in his ads ( His plan is a inadequate: "Instead of a comprehensive plan addressing access to health care and insurance affordability like the ones proposed by the other frontrunners, he addresses a mishmash of seemingly unconnected issues, from telemedicine to tort reform to electronic medical records. It is unclear why some issues warrant Andrew Yang’s attention and not others. Sure, making HIV prevention medication and reproductive health care more widely available are worthy goals, but there’s no coherence or overarching policy" (VOX). Where policies like "tort reform" actually make it harder for patients to file malpractice lawsuits: "Tort reform of medical malpractice litigation has made it very expensive and time consuming to pursue a medical malpractice case" (SENIORJUSTICE, PBS).

"The plan also doesn't address the tens of millions of people who are uninsured or those who are struggling to pay their insurance plans’ high premiums, co-pays or deductibles.

Additionally, it isn’t clear how Yang would accomplish several of the provisions in his plan. He pledges, for instance, to “ensure Americans have access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive care, including STI screenings, contraception, and abortion” but does not indicate what combination of executive orders and legislation that would entail — other than repealing Trump’s Title X rule that cut funding to Planned Parenthood." (POLITICO).

We need M4A now. There's no time for anything else, people are dying everyday from lack of access to healthcare and/or going into massive debt from medical expenses.

  14. Chris: “convince me that you’re not a republican in disguise.”

Yang: “I’m running to stop Trump from a second term and to fix the country.”

Chris: “… ya but how can I be sure that you’re worthy to be apart of the Clinton party?”

MSNBC, once again showing that they’ve already decided who should win… cough Biden cough

  15. Yang is new energy he bring to DNC. Lots of Yang supporters never been to primaries or even gave up elections. Thanks #AndrewYang for making us better Americans and celebrate our democracy.

  16. Andrea 'chainsaw' Greenspan in real life when no one is filming sounds like a cross between Emperor palpatine and Andrea Mitchell BTW, She is the Queen of the MSNBCannibals!

  17. This is not a good interview but I am a lifelong independent but i donated to Yang's campaign and really hope he wins. He is the most intelligent candidate in decades. He doesn't just blather on about problems we all know exist, but talks about solutions. He's pragmatic and comes across as trustworthy and genuine. MSNBC and other conglomerates don't want to give him attention because they prefer a candidate that will cave to corporate interests.

  18. So this guy named “day time” in the comments calling Andrew yang a “commie” and “dog eater” is the exact reason why inbreeding is illegal in the U.S

  19. Wow what a substantive video MSNBC. If you're going to have Yang on, at least do him justice… Unless it's true that you're a conspiracy network and don't like Yangs HUMANITY first approach to politics? Your network isn't as powerful as the collective American public that will elect Yang. Also, did you ever apologize to Yang for not covering his campaign appropriately thus far? I guess seeing Chris Hayes' smug face when he eventually is interviewing President Yang will be all the satisfaction I need.

  20. Please post the full interview end the President Obama clone war on progressives. We are not voting for your candidate Chef Word Salad Pete.

  21. Such a low key accusation for being a republican stooge. This joker reporter and the channel won't even acknowledge how partial and untruthful they have been. Pathetic. Wonder why Yang is even bothering while all they try to do is discredit and mock him.

  22. I thinking calling msnbc out was the right move. But I’m not sure if boycotting msnbc was a good move especially now that the boycott was called off. That’s just playing into their game. Calling them out and maybe even asking them during an interview about their poor treatment of him would have been a better strategy imo

  23. don't let MSNBC hide all the important information he provided. PLEASE watch the full interview on youtube, instead of these small clips they have created.

  24. Good interview by Hayes! I still wish they had addressed the boycott and cleared the air, though. For those of you who don't know about MSNBC's blackout of Yang, here you go:

  25. I hope MSNBC is able to see this. Andrew Yang took a chance on you and you failed. I will do… absolutely everything possible to ruin your network until you decide to offer fair coverage.

Fox, CNN, PBS offer fair coverage.. use your platforms to put MSNBC and their share holders under.
