After Trump’s Senate Trial Begins – 4 Republicans Make Deal With The Devil

The Democrat-controlled House passed both
articles — obstruction of Congress and abuse of power — against President Donald Trump
almost a month ago after carrying out the most partisan witch hunt in modern American
history. After stalling for almost a month, Pelosi
finally caved this week and sent both articles to the GOP-controlled Senate. Finally, the president will get a fair trial
in the Republican-controlled Senate — or will he? A new report reveals that the tide may turn
soon after 4 Senate Republicans could give Democrats more power. In the Senate, Democrats want to drag new
witnesses in to testify, mainly cherry-picked witnesses who they hope will throw Trump under
the bus. This won’t prove a thing, but it will drag
out this impeachment trial for longer than they should. And all eyes are on four Senate Republicans
who are reportedly “strongly” considering joining Democrats to force new witnesses in
the Senate trial: Susan Collins of Maine
Lisa Murkowski of Alaska Mitt Romney of Utah
Lamar Alexander of Tennessee Here’s more from Yahoo:
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said that’s his preference as well, but
it may be up to his Republican colleagues, Senators Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Mitt
Romney and Lamar Alexander. All four have said they’re open to hearing
new testimony. Together they have the power to join with
Democrats on key questions like whether to subpoena former National Security Adviser
John Bolton, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney and a trove of documents sought
by the House but blocked by the president. Why is this a big deal? Republicans control a 53-47 majority in the
upper chamber. To impeach Trump in the Senate, 67 Senators
would need to vote in favor of removing the president. That means all 47 Democrats and 20 Republicans
would need to vote in favor of it. That’s never going to happen — even Democrats
know that. Democrats are targeting these 4 Never-Trumpers
in the Senate because they are trying to delay and draw out the impeachment trial as long
as possible to hurt the president politically going into the election. The group isn’t big enough to threaten Trump’s
presidency — but if enough peel off, they could provide Democrats with the 51 votes
needed for key wins, such as to compel witnesses, demand documents, and push through other procedural
motions Democrats may seek during a trial. Republicans only control 53 Senate seats,
meaning just 3 Republicans voting with Democrats could have a major impact. And there are already 4 Never-Trump lawmakers
who have signaled they may vote with Democrats to drag out the bogus impeachment hearings. These senators are considered “moderate,”
meaning they aren’t completely behind the president and his agenda. People worried that these 4 Republicans will
try to appease Democrats to seem “fair,” but everyone knows this will only give liberals
more time to stall, drag this out, and use more time to smear the president. We want a quick trial that clears Trump’s
name — that is it. If these Republicans waver, there will be
hell to pay come November.
